WEDNESDAY 15th JUNE – Burgos to Hornillos Del Camino
Km’s walked – 22,05 ; Steps – 32642 ; flights – 12
DAY 14 of actual walking
We packed our bags, Babar and Monkey getting heavier and heavier despite not seeming to add anything except the odd bottle of wine and “surgical spirits” for the feet. We had a good breakfast and set off to meet Jennie. It was chilly. It took a little while to navigate our way out of Burgos, but as we were leaving we passed through a beautiful “forest”, and happened on the University of Burgos, Law School. A spectacular building, recently restored. We went in and asked for stamps for our credentials and they were so gracious.
The photo above is our view as we were walking towards Hornillos Del Camino.
The day on the Meseta was beautiful. I have no idea what I expected ( I had read a number of negative reports), but it was just breathtaking. Sarah and I stopped often with Jennie to take photographs. How lucky are we???
The “collected countries” todY, were, Poland, Italy ( at least four couples), Bulgaria ( a lovely older couple that walked all the way holding hands),Brazil ( two very friendly but uncommunicative guys), Spain, and USA (California, Florida) and South Korea ( a couple, where she drags a trolley with all their stuff behind her, and all he says is ” happy, happy!”). I love this collecting countries. We are still the only South Africans, and everyone reacts so amazingly positively when we tell them where we are from. As people pass us on foot or on bikes, we shout out, “Hola, Buen Camino, where are you from?” Most of the time they answer us, when they don’t we try again when we see them later if we do.
Jennie, our friend from earlier in the walk, walked with us, and again, what a joy. I really like her.
Our hotel was out of Hornillos Del Camino so we got collected. Great hotel. Great meal. Late night as I wanted to update my blog.
