The End of the World ….. Finesterre

(The 34 meter long horrereo (grain storer) – the largest in Galacia)

Monday 11th July 2016 – Finesterre
“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” Edith Wharton

Today I took a tour to Finesterre. In medieval times they thought it was the End of the world, so it’s now known as that. It Si where you can walk to kilometers zero on the Camino. Today I took a tor. Tomorrow, I will take a municipal bus and stop at Cee, 12 Km’s out of the town and walk into Finesterre. I will stay the night so I can go and watch the sunset as it is apparently spectacular. Babar will stay here in Santiago, I will go with Tinkerbell only and a few overnight things.

The whole tour was lovely. We took a trip along the coast and stopped at Muxia first. then Finesterre and Cape Finesterre. I had amazing Pulpo ( Ocotpus) for lunch and delicious white wine. We saw kilometer 00 and we also saw the biggest horrereo ( grain storage thing) in Galacia.

Below some pics of a lovely day. Before the end of the week, I will post my last post for this journey, with lessons and reflections from my treasure hunting on the Camino.

( Me at The End of The World)

( The village of Finesterre)

(My Pulpo for lunch)

(Cape Finesterre)

Ocotpus nets

(Another beautiful door – this one on a completely abandoned hotel on Cape Finesterre)

(At Km 000 – if you walked this extra 87 Km’s of the Camino you would reach km 00)

( a quirky sign at the top of Cape Finesterre. It’s tradition that Pilgrims would burn a piece of their clothing as an offering. It’s strictly forbidden but people still do it)

( Muxia – which is apparently the last place St James visited)

(The River Xallia which ends in a waterfall that runs into the sea, apparently the only river in Europe that ends in a waterfall into the sea )

(The lighthouse at Muxia)

And below some pics of Santiago:

On Sunday I took a taxi back 9,5kms to see the Pilgrim statue I missed on Friday when I walked into Santiago, ( it was a detour and I forgot to take it in all the excitement). After seeing the statue I walked back into Santiago to the cathedral to again just relive the moment and to walk.

(Apparently the legend goes that the first Pilgrims stood on this hill and saw the Cathedral in the distance and exclaimed “Monte Del Gozo” –  mountain of joy! Magnificent statues)

Below you can just make out the cathedral in the distance:

Some pics of my second journey back into Santiago:

Last post in the next few days. Xxxxx

  4. What a wonderful walk you have had, and thank you so much for sharing. I’ve really enjoyed following you.
I hope to be in Santiago at the end of April next year, and then on to Muxia and Finisterre – do you mind saying which tour company you took your tour with? It seems like a more comprehensive one than others I;ve seen mentioned. Thanks in advance.

Once again, many thanks for taking the time to write your blog each day, and for taking such amazingly beautiful photos. You must have some glorious memories which will feed and nourish your heart and soul and carry you through the rest of your days, lifting you when you need it.

    God bless.
