I wandered lonely as a cloud …..

“To walk in nature is to witness a thousand miracles.” Mary Davis

Day 3 – Saugues to Les Faux

30kms – 43336 steps – cumulative: 77kms and 117 933 steps

I set off early as Sergeant Major Jesus has us out of there pronto. I’m barely on the road and I stumble across a field of wild daffodils. Imagine my delight, I practically burst into tears, I couldn’t believe it.

Daffodils are there fields of them
Making sure I go in the right direction

I walked for about 3kms. I had made a little deal with myself that I had to do 4kms an hour for the next two hours. The views are beautiful the birds are chirping. Then I come across Lindsay a Scottish Pilgrim I had briefly met in Le Puy.

Lindsay must be 70 or so and retired and he’s walking to St Jean Pied de Port. A really talkative Lilly man who plays the guitar and had much wisdom to share. We walk together for about 4kms then I leave him as he’s slowed down a little. I see a few more Pilgrims but not many. And field after field of daffodils.

Lindsay from Scotland – I ran into him again a day later and took a pic as I’d missed one

The whole day was dominated by the spectacular fields of daffodils. I kept thinking of that Wordsworth poem I used to love so much on daffodils. I remember found a Std 8 project on it at school. Had a real impact on me.

  1. The only time I have ever seen fields of daffodils was at Troutbeck in Inyanga where they were grown for the bulbs and I got huge bunches to put in my home. So I can imagine how difficult it must be to pass by these fields. Beauty for free. You are doing so well Queen of the Walk and very proud of what you are achieving. So you know you are missed and we do need our Princess back once your wanderings are over. Keep Smiling.

  2. Ahem … I thought I would just draw your attention to the important wording of that one road-side sign you photographed: “L’AMOUR DANS LE PRÉ EST INTERDIT PENDANT LA SAISON DES FOINS”! We are all going to hold you to this, Princess, yes? Remember … we are all watching from afar … 🙂
