Easing back …

Day 10 – Conques to Decazeville

19.8kms and 31 012 steps – Total to date; 248.65kms and. 377 031 steps

Leaving Conques this morning with a spring in my step and a happy rested body and heart

The walk out of Conques was busy this morning. Many Pilgrims leaving. The slog of the down on medieval cobblestones and as we get out of the town the steep pull up up up. Through a beautiful forest but steep.

View out of my window this morning before leaving

I met Charles and Anne from UK and Australian half way up. We chatted and that made things easier. Quite a climb actually – 545 meters. I was swimming in sweat. And spinning with heat as it felt very hot very early.

We stopped for a coffee at 8kms. I stuck with the lovely couple from UK and Australia they knew an alternate route. so I stayed close. Lovely to chat with and walk with.

It was hot and we took little shade breaks until we reached Decazeville when Charles and Anne left me to continue to next town. When I found my hotel I got a little scared. Reminded me of a bad movie. It looked deserted and had no other guests just us. Weird.

Very kind patron. Our bags had not come so he called around to find them. They were still in Conques. A problem at the organizing company. A taxi delivers them to us. Relief!

Some lovely scenery today. Hard walking on roads mostly, little shade and very hot. Lovely to be in Company of Charles and Anne. They dropped me off at my street and continued to their town.

A pleasant walk today. Feeling back to normal. Focusing on the views and the joy and the beauty! Enjoyed walking with Anne and Charles. Interesting chatter and insights. They are in late sixties walking all the way to Santiago- Amazing 🤩

Arrived in Decazeville at about 2h30. They carried on to next town. Weird hotel. A bit like Hotel Psycho. Just three people staying here. Then bags don’t arrive and we have to track them back to Conques. Their mistake. Bags came by taxi at 6pm.

Other than the initial up up up and the heat it was a good walk. I’m feeling strong and ready for the next stretch of work.
